Anxiety and the outside world

Posted by: rjolinski on: January 5, 2011

I am 24 years old and have a long history dealing with a learning disorder and anxiety. It frustrates me to know end because some people just do not understand. Until you experience it for yourself.

Tao Te Ching says: “Concern yourself with the opinions of others and you will be their prisoner.”

It is also challanging everyday because I also suffer from  Fibromyalgia syndrome. Which causes me physical and mental pain.  Many sleepless nights and long waited relief.

What Is Fibromyalgia Syndrome?

A syndrome is a set of symptoms. When they exist together, they imply the presence of a specific disease or a greater chance of developing the disease. With fibromyalgia syndrome, the following symptoms commonly occur together:

  • anxiety or depression
  • decreased pain threshold or tender points
  • incapacitating fatigue
  • widespread pain

Are Women More Likely to Get Fibromyalgia Than Men?

More than 12 million Americans have fibromyalgia. Most of them are women ranging in age from 25 to 60. Women are 10 times more likely to get this disease than men.

Anxiety Disorders

Common Characteristics

Anxiety Disorders categorize a large number of disorders where the primary feature is abnormal or inappropriate anxiety.  Everybody has experienced anxiety.  Think about the last time a loud noise frightened you and remember the feelings inside your body.  Chances are you experienced an increased heart rate, tensed muscles, and perhaps an acute sense of focus as you tried to determine the source of the noise.  These are all symptoms of anxiety.  They are also part of a normal process in our bodies called the ‘flight or flight’ phenomenon.  This means that your body is preparing itself to either fight or protect itself or to flee a dangerous situation.

These symptoms become a problem when they occur without any recognizable stimulus or when the stimulus does not warrant such a reaction.  In other words, inappropriate anxiety is when a person’s heart races, breathing increases, and muscles tense without any reason for them to do so.  Once a medical cause is ruled out, an anxiety disorder may be the culprit.
